Being good to one’s parents even is they are unbelievers
Asmaa bint Abi Bakr Al-Siddiq (May Allah be pleased with both of them) said: My
mother came to see me while she was still an unbeliever. I then inquired with
the Prophet (p.b.b.u.h) saying: My mother has come to see me expecting something
from me. May I oblige her? He then replied: “Yes, be kind to your mother.”
(Bukhari & Muslim)
Be good to an unbeliever neighbour
Abdullah bin Amro reported that he slaughtered a sheep and asked: Have you given
my Jewish neighbour something of it? I have heard the Messenger of Allah
(p.b.b.u.h) saying: “Gabriel advised me to do good to my neighbour to the extent
I thought he would advise me to make the neighbour an heir.” (The only Hadith
here by Tirmizi & Abu Daoud)
Visiting an unbeliever patient and inviting him to become a Muslim
Anas reported that a Jewish boy, who used to serve the Prophet (p.b.b.u.h) fell
ill. When the Prophet (p.b.b.u.h) heard of the boy’s illness, he went to visit
him. He sat next to his head and said to him: “Become a Muslim.” The boy then
looked at his father who happened to be with him. His father then said: Obey Aba
Al-Qasim (i.e. the Prophet). When the became a Muslim, the Prophet (p.b.b.u.h)
came out saying: “Praise be to Allah Who has saved the boy from Hell-Fire”.
Inviting non-Muslims to Islam and the reward one gets if he manages to invite an
unbeliever to become a Muslim
Sahel bin Saed reported that Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him)
asked: shall we fight them (i.e. the Jews of Khaibar) until they become like us?
The Prophet (p.b.b.u.h) then said: “Take it easy! Wait until you take up their
quarters, then invite them to Islam informing them what their duties are. I
swear to Allah, inviting one man, who eventually becomes a Muslim, is better for
you than owning ‘humr al-an’m.” (i.e. the best breed of camels which are red and
whose legs are beautifully decorated with white and black spot).
He who kills a Jew or a Christian
Abdullah bin Amro (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that the
Messenger of Allah (p.b.b.u.h) said: “He who kills a Jew or Christian with whom
an agreement or a treaty has been made will not sense the smell of Paradise, and
no doubt, its smell can be sensed from a distance covered in forty years.”
(Bukhari)
Keeping promise made to unbelievers if one enters an agreement with them
Huthifah bin Al Yaman said: What prevented me from participating in Badr Battle
was that the unbelievers of Quraish took us as Abi Husail my father and I were
heading towards Madinah. They asked us: Are you going to join Muhammad
(p.b.b.u.h)? we answered: No, we do not want him. We want Madinah only. They
asked us to swear by Allah promising them to join forces with Muhammad
(p.b.b.u.h) and fight for him. When we came to the Messenger of Allah
(p.b.b.u.h) and told him the news, he said: “stay away from us. We will keep
your promise and seek Allah’s assistance against them. (Muslim)
Living safely among the unbelievers and then betraying and robbing them
Al-Miswar bin Mikhrama reported that Al-Mughira bin Shubah accompanied a group
of people in his pre-Islamic period whom he then killed and robbed of their
wealth. Later on he came to the Prophet (p.b.b.u.h) declaring that he wanted to
become a Muslim. The Prophet (p.b.b.u.h) then said: “Your Islam I accept but I
neither accept nor approve of the wealth you have got.” (Bukhari)
If a Muslim grants sanctuary to an unbeliever (a man or a woman), this
unbeliever becomes in a sanctuary from all Muslims
Um hani bint Abi Talib reported that she had granted a sanctuary to an
unbeliever on the Day of taking over Makkah. When she came to the Prophet
(p.b.b.u.h) and mentioned this to him, he said: “We have granted a sanctuary to
whom you have granted a sanctuary and we have given assurance of safety to whom
you have given assurance of safety.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
Responding to what People of the Book say provided that it does not contradict
with Islam
Abu Hurairah reported that the people of the Book used to read ‘Turah’ in Hebrew
and interpret it in Arabic to the people of Islam. The Messenger of Allah
(p.b.b.u.h) said: “Neither believe the People of the Book nor belie them but
rather says: we believe in Allah, in what has been revealed to us and in what
was revealed to you.” (Bukhari)
Jesus will be sent down to rule with the Islamic law
Abu Hurairah reported that the Messenger of Allah (p.b.b.u.h) said: “By Allah in
Whose hands my soul is, the time is near when the Son of Mary will be sent down
as a just ruler; he will break the cross, kill the pig; cancel out tax and money
will grow so abundant that it will not be needed by anyone.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
The Hour will come when the Christian are the majority of people
Al Mistawarid Al Qarashi was at Amro bin Al-As’ place; he said he heard the
Messenger of Allah (p.b.b.u.h) saying: “The hour will come when the Christians
are the majority of people on this earth.” Having heard this, Amro said: “Watch
what you are saying.” Al-Mistawrid then said: “I am saying what I heard the
Prophet saying: “ Moreover, I have told you this is to let you know that they
have four good characteristic: they are the most understanding people in times
of crisis (Fitnah); the quickest in recovering from disaster; the quickest in
hitting back after a retreat in a battle and the best to the poor, orphan and
weak; and another characteristic is that they do not humiliate kings they
capture.” (Muslim)
