Small Kindness Supporting Orphans and Families in Iraq

ICSFP
As chaos continues in Iraq, Small Kindness is one of the unique and brave organisations active in the country. It was one of the first aid agencies to directly provide financial support to orphans and families in the aftermath of the war. Hundreds of families are being helped monthly, with payments of $20 to each orphan through the Iraq Orphans & Family Fund (IOFF).

The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: When the orphan crys, the throne is shaken, and The Merciful says, 'O Gabrial, who made him cry. O angels, I am taking you for testifiers, that the onw who turns the cry of an orphan into a smile, there is no other reward than paradise.'

Among the assistance offer are educational programssuach as the European Management Training & Educational Center (EMTEC) in the heart of Baghdad University, provided free of charge to students, and the University Students’ Scholarship Program which offers support including tuition fees, the purchase of books and materials, travel expenses, accommodation costs and other living expenses.

Small Kindness is a U.K. registered charity (No 1079579) associated with the UN/DPI. Founded by Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens) in 1999, it works to alleviate the suffering of families and children in the Balkans as well as the Middle East, promoting community development and prosperity by providing relief and educational programs to needy peoples ravaged and made homeless by war and conflict.

Following initial deliveries of emergency aid and materials to areas such as Kosova, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Albania, and more recently Iraq, Small Kindness has successfully established a system of long-term support and development by providing regular payments to orphans and widows and founding educational institutions for the training of local youth, enabling young ladies in particular learn skills and gain qualifications that will provide them with career prospects and a brighter future.
