Paul Harvey Backs Down

ICSFP Staff

After being flooded with angry letters and phone calls Paul Harvey, the syndicated radio commentator, has backed off his previous defamatory comments (read about it here) and has come forth with praise for Islam declaring, "Islam is a religion of peace and terrorists do not represent Islam."

Muslims everywhere were enraged over Harvey's previous anti-Islamic statements wherein he said, "Add to the thirst for blood a religion which encourages killing, and it is entirely understandable if Americans came to this bloody party unprepared."

Harvey is one of the most popular radio personalities in the U.S. with over 24 million listeners. His radio program is carried by over 1,600 radio stations in America and worldwide.

The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) declared his remarks to be Islamophobic hate-mongering and called upon Muslims everywhere to stand up and speak out against his vitriol. The subsequent outpour of anger resulted in his apology showing the positive result that can be achieved by speaking out against such an attack.

This is not Harvey's first such comment against Islam nor his first apology. Back in 1999 he issued an on-air apology to Muslims for remarks suggesting that Islam was a "fraudulent religion." The apology came after hundreds of concerned Muslims called, faxed and e-mailed both Harvey's office and that of ABC Radio Networks, his program's syndicator.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUESTED:
